The Internal Affairs Unit, is an office
adhered to the General Prosecutor of the Republic. It serves by delegation of the General
Prosecutor instructing disciplinary cases initiated against the officials and
servants of the Public Prosecutor Offices.
It is located in the sixth flat of the Plaza of Justice’s
building. Their phone

It is an adhering office of the General Prosecutor’s Office whose work
is to protect the victims constitutional right of
being compensated economically by the damages produced as a result of the
crime they suffered. For that matter,
a lawyer is assigned to the victim, who by the interposition of a civil
action against the defendant or the one that turn out to be penal and/or
civilly responsible, inside the criminal trial, claims the compensation of
the damages caused. It is located in
the Alpine building, which is in front the south side of the Plaza of Justice’s
building in San Jose - Costa Rica;

It’s another office of the Public Prosecutor which is responsible for
attending all the people (men, women and children), national and foreign, that are victims in any criminal trial.
On the 8th of may of 2000 started the Crime Victims’ Assistance Office,
which depends on the Civil Action Department.
It was created by agreement of the Upper Counsel in session N°95-99,
celebrated on november 30th, 1999. It’s located on the first flat of the
Courts’ building in San Jose -Costa Rica.

Every person can denounce a crime committed in its damage, regardless
of age, sex, citizenship, neither no other
condition.
To whom corresponds to investigate:
The Public Prosecutor is the state organ responsible for receiving and
investigating the accusations by crimes committed in the national territory,
and in some cases, according to the international rules, those committed out
of republic.
To carry out the investigation the prosecutor in charge of the
reported incident
will direct the investigators of the Agency of Judicial
Investigation and will also be assisted by the departments of Legal Medicine
and Forensic Sciences.
Reports of minors: Minors are
authorized to interpose accusations, regardless of age but the authority will
always take into account its emotional maturity to determine how will their
petitions are managed (articles 104 and 105 of the Childhood and
Adolescence’s code).
The accusations can be formulated in the Public Prosecutor’s Offices and
the Agency of Judicial Investigation all over the country. During holidays, weekends and not labor
hours, they should be presented before the Agency of Judicial Investigation
of their locality.

The Administrative Unit of the General Prosecutor’s Office (U.A.M.P)
at present is conformed by 29 officials (3
performing professional positions, 10 in support positions and 15 on Maintenance
Services). Its offices are located in
the Courts’ building of the First Judicial Circuit in San José and among its functions are taking
care of administration and organization tasks entrusted by its superior, as
well as would assess it in the budgetary and administrative aspects related
with the Public Prosecutors’ Office.

The Information and Documentation Center of
the Training and Supervision Unit has as an objective to offer the officials
of the Judicial Power, the service of loan and consultation of books and
other documents, so that they have at their reach all the information
available. Due to budget limitations, this service is suspended at the
present.
